At tonight’s Ledger Awards in Melbourne, four of Gestalt Comics‘ graphic novels have been announced as Gold Ledger Award winners.

Vowels, by Skye Ogden, was first announced for a retrospective Gold Award for 2008; Digested 2 by Bobby.N  was then announced for a Gold for 2009; then Flinch – an anthology by a number of artists with cover art by Shaun Tan, which won a Gold Ledger Award for 2010; and Justin Randall‘s Changing Ways: Book 1 collected a Gold Ledger for 2011.

From the Melbourne awards night, Gestalt’s Editor-in-Chief Wolfgang Bylsma said he was “absolutely delighted” to receive the recognition of the quality of work that Gestalt has published.

“The kudos truly belongs with the creators themselves, of course, but the acknowledgement both for them and for us is just fantastic,” he said.

The Ledger Awards were established to acknowledge and promote excellence in comic arts and publishing in Australia. The not-for-profit annual event, which has just returned after a five-year hiatus, is named after the pioneering Australian cartoonist Peter Ledger (1945 – 1994).
