Born in the country in Western Australia, Emily K. Smith enjoyed a literary childhood and followed her passion for storytelling and the visual arts at age seventeen when she went to university and discovered the graphic novel.

Smith educated herself in sequential art by interacting with other artists over the internet, while drawing inspiration and method from her landscape artist father. By the age of twenty, Smith had secured her first illustration job with the Perth-based publishing house, Gestalt Comics.

Passionate about graphic novels as an art form, Smith has lectured at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School on theory and the interpretation of sequential storytelling, and has provided workshops to Primary and Secondary Schools across WA.

Smith has most recently worked as concept artist for the VR episodic series based on Ryan Griffen‘s Lustration comic series.
