In the dark underbelly of The City, Lark, once a headkicker for the powerful coven called the Library, has been out on his own, working cases involving the mad schemes of cultists, sorcerers and the insane.
Author Christian Read describes the book: ‘At the end of the second book in the series, Devil City, Lark had been forced to exile himself from the City. His ex, Scarlet, got married to a man he detests. His ex partner, the possessed Jon the Hollow, had been freed of a curse but at a horrifying cost. Now, Lark’s alone. His bodyguard Bettina was in her grave, healing after some serious wounds, some of which Lark was forced to give her. Now, he’s alone and someone is playing games with him. Luring him in to the tiny town of Crosscut. Crosscut is haunted by poverty, by drugs, by desperation. And by ghosts.’
“We are immensely proud to be publishing Christian Read’s novels,” said Wolfgang Bylsma, Editor-in-Chief at Gestalt. “He creates authentically flawed, deeply compelling characters within superreal worlds. He is quite simply an amazing fantasist who captures the characteristic nuance of broken people with intricate, credible detail.”
Read is a Ledger Award winning writer, who has worked on graphic novels such as The Eldritch Kid: Whisky and Hate and Unmasked: Going Straight is No Way to Die, and Karnak. He’s also worked in the games industry, on titles such as The Secret World, Hand of Fate and Warhammer 40 000: Eternal Crusade. Ghost City is his third novel.
