It is with deep sadness that we farewell artistic creator Mel Tregonning, who has passed away.
Tregonning was one of Western Australia’s emerging artists, in comics and illustration.
From the age of 16 she drew a regular feature comic strip for a nationally distributed magazine and in 2005 she was a finalist in the international “Illustrators of the Future” competition.
In 2006 she began working as an in-house illustrator for RIC Publications, where she remained until early this year, and in 2009 Mel’s artwork ‘Night’ was included in Gestalt’s Flinch anthology.
Gestalt Comics Editor-in-Chief, Wolfgang Bylsma, said he was shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Tregonning’s passing.
“Mel’s art was stunning, with meticulous attention to detail,” he said.
“She would always attend our Gestalt Comics events and book launches held in Perth and her absence will certainly be felt.”
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathy go to her family and loved ones.”
In tribute to Tregonning, her artwork from ‘Night’ is now freely available – Download a copy.
