VOWELS wins Gold Ledger Award

Gestalt’s Editor-in-Chief Wolfgang Bylsma accepts the Gold Ledger Award on behalf of Skye Ogden for Vowels.

At tonight’s Ledger Award Night, VOWELS is the first of Gestalt Comics’ graphic novels to be announced as a Gold Ledger Award recipient.

The graphic novel by Skye Ogden has won a Gold Ledger for 2008 – the wordless story of VOWELS spans five imaginary eras, examining the human condition through eyes that aren’t human at all and serves as a gentle reminder to look at ourselves and all that we are capable of.

The Ledger Awards were organised to ‘acknowledge excellence in Australian comic art and publishing,’ and are named after pioneering Australian cartoonist Peter Ledger (1945-1994).

The awards were first held in 2005 to help promote and focus attention on Australian creators and their projects, both in Australia and overseas.
