The OzComics weekly draw-off challenge has become a staple for many Australian artists to try new techniques, illustrate favoured characters, engage in good-natured competition and receive critical peer feedback. Recently, their weekly challenge featured the theme of Usagi Yojimbo and attracted Usagi creator and industry legend, Stan Sakai, who commented on nearly every entry, much to the benefit (and delight) of all involved.
This iteration of the weekly challenge will be judged by writer Tom Taylor, artist James Brouwer and editor Wolfgang Bylsma, with five copies of the newly released second volume, The Vanishing Island, to be awarded for those entries most in keeping with the spirit of The Deep‘s storytelling.
If you would like to participate, head over to www.facebook.com/ozcomics, follow the simple guidelines and submit your entry! Reference material can be found in the graphic novels themselves (naturally) and on the official The Deep website.
